From your first enquiry to settling in
Whether you've just sent us an enquiry or you're still thinking it over, we're so glad you're here. Reaching out about support or a new home is a big step, and it's natural to wonder what comes next. Below, we walk you through each step, so you, your family or your support coordinator always know what to expect. Everyone's journey is different, and we'll go at a pace that feels right for you.
-
Step 1
We receive your enquiry
Once you submit your enquiry, you'll receive an email confirming we've received it. A member of our Participant Success team will then review your details so we're ready to talk with you.
-
Step 2
We give you a call
Someone from our team will give you a call, usually within two business days, to talk about your enquiry. This is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation, and you don't need to commit to anything. You're welcome to have a family member, carer, support coordinator or anyone else you trust join you, or they can speak with us on your behalf.
We'll go over the details you shared in your enquiry, including your NDIS plan and funding, and ask a few more questions about the support or home you're looking for. If you're still waiting on NDIS approval or aren't sure where things stand, that's okay. We can talk through what that means for you.
-
Step 3
Getting to know you
We want to understand you as a person, not just your support needs. We'll talk about your goals, your daily routines, what's important to you, the people in your life, and what a good home and good support would look like for you.
-
Step 4
Exploring your options
Together, we'll look at the supports and housing options that could suit you. We'll be open and honest about whether Allara is the right fit and whether we currently have a suitable home or service available.
If we're not the right fit, or don't have something suitable right now, we'll tell you so, and we'll help point you towards other options or keep in touch as new vacancies come up.
-
Step 5
Sharing some information
If you'd like to go ahead, we'll ask for some information to help us plan your supports properly. This might include your NDIS plan, relevant reports, and details about your health, communication and support preferences. We'll explain why we're asking for each item, and your information is always kept private and secure. We'll only share it with your permission.
-
Step 6
Meeting each other
This is a chance to meet in person. You can meet members of our team, ask questions, and, if you're exploring housing, visit the home and possibly meet the people you'd be living with. Your family and support network are welcome to be part of this.
-
Step 7
Planning your start
We'll work with you and your support network to plan a smooth start. This includes agreeing on your supports, confirming a start or move-in date, and preparing your service agreement. We'll make sure your support team knows what matters to you before day one, from how you like your morning coffee to what helps when you're feeling unsettled.
-
Step 8
Your supports begin
Once your supports begin, we'll check in with you regularly, especially in the first few weeks, to see how things are going and make any changes you need. As time goes on, we'll keep reviewing your supports with you so they continue to fit your goals and your life. You can share feedback or raise concerns with us at any time.
Am I eligible?
If you're not sure whether Allara can support you, you're not alone, and you don't need to have all the answers before you get in touch. Here's a quick guide to where you might be.
-
I have an NDIS plan
If your plan includes funding for the support you're looking for, such as Supported Independent Living (SIL), Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) or everyday support at home and in the community, we'd love to talk with you.
-
I'm waiting on NDIS approval
Please still reach out. We can get to know you now, talk through what support could look like once your plan is approved, and help you understand what to expect along the way.
-
I don't have NDIS funding
That's okay. Give us a call and we'll be honest about what we can offer. If we're not the right fit right now, we'll help point you towards the NDIS or other supports that could help.
Thinking about applying to the NDIS?
The NDIS makes the final decision on who can access the scheme. As a general guide, you'll usually need to meet these requirements.
- Be aged under 65 when you apply
- Live in Australia and be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Special Category visa holder
- Have a disability caused by a permanent impairment, and usually need disability-specific support with everyday activities, or need early support now to reduce your support needs later
Children under 9 can get support through the NDIS early childhood approach.
