Together with our community partners, Allara Support Services co-hosted the NDIS Providers Biggest Morning Tea at The Waterfront, Gosford, raising an incredible $1,369.60 for Cancer Council Australia. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, donated, contributed raffle prizes, and shared meaningful conversations throughout the morning. Together, we raised funds and awareness for a cause that impacts so many individuals, families, and communities. I was a player for more than 20 years in the Dutch national team and also a head coach from the national team in Denmark. In the past I won everything that you can win in this sport and now I try to bring my joy and knowledge to Australia to The Australian sliders. The group is fantastic and they are already making great steps forward. They train hard, put a lot of effort in not only to be better on the field but also making sure that the material like wheelchairs are improved. As a coach I am proud of this group but because it’s disabled sport everything costs so much and that’s why I want to ask for your help. So this fantastic team can go to Finland next year and make Australia 🇦🇺 proud. I have been honoured to be a part of the first Sliders in 2004 & then again in 2014. I retired for a while and I have returned to try and make the squad as a 43 year old! An 8 year gap has made me realised how much I love this game! The physical and mental challenge, teammates and community. This is one of the best Powerchair sports, both to play and watch. SLIDERS SPOTLIGHT 🇦🇺🏒 Hello everyone, my name is Scott Topham and I’m proud to be a member and player of the Australian Sliders. I’ve been playing powerchair hockey for 6 years now and have loved it ever since I started. When I was younger I always wanted to take part in sports like a lot of other kids my age, and at the time this wasn’t possible because of my condition. But this sport has been able to give me that privilege, to be able to take part in competitive sporting. Developing my skills to get to where I’ve come today has been a long and challenging journey, playing locally in Perth with a smaller club. To have the honour to represent my country as an Australian means so much to me and I’m so grateful to play with an incredibly passionate and supportive community of members and players. The work that is and has been put into forming, building and supporting this team is also really inspiring and motivating, to show that Australia can be truly competitive in this sport. I have played the sport for approximately 8 years, and that time has truly been special to me. Not only has this sport provided me the opportunity to experience the sporting field at its best, but it has introduced me to a prospering and welcoming community of which I am proud to have so many close friends.
