At Allara Support Services, we believe in championing inclusion, ambition, and excellence. That’s why we’re proud sponsors of the Australian Sliders, the national powerhouse in Powerchair Hockey, as they prepare to take on the world at the 2026 IPCH World Championship.
To mark the official team announcement, we sat down with Kieran Watts, Vice-President of the Australian Powerchair Hockey Association and elite athlete, to talk about the journey, the sport, and the impact of community support.
“My role is focused on supporting the growth of the sport and ensuring that our athletes have the best possible environment to succeed,” says Kieran. “I first became involved in 2010 as an athlete, and the sport has taken me on an unforgettable path ever since.”
From national tournaments to World Championships, Kieran’s journey reflects the heart of Powerchair Hockey: resilience, teamwork, and a deep love for the game.
Stepping Onto the World Stage
With the announcement of the Australian Sliders team for the 2026 World Championship, excitement is building.
“This announcement represents the hard work, commitment, and determination of every player, coach, and supporter,” Kieran shares. “It’s more than just being named for a World Championship—it’s the chance to come together as one unit, to push ourselves to new levels, and to proudly represent Australia.”
Preparing for Greatness. Growing the Game. Building Legacy
Training for the world stage is no small feat. The Sliders are focused on building chemistry, refining strategy, and staying mentally and physically sharp.
“Our goals are clear,” says Kieran. “We want to compete at our best, push ourselves to the limit, and play with the teamwork and determination that the Sliders are known for.”
International representation is about visibility and growth.
“Every international game puts our sport in the spotlight, inspires new players, and shows the skill and dedication of this community,” Kieran explains. “It’s about growing the sport, raising awareness, and leaving a legacy.”
The Power of Support: Allara and Rachel Carey
Support from sponsors like Allara Support Services and advocates such as Rachel Carey is making a real difference.
“Their commitment allows athletes to train, compete, and reach their full potential,” Kieran says. “It elevates the game, inspires our athletes to push harder, and demonstrates the broader community value of supporting disability sport.”
Rachel Carey, NDIS business leader and passionate advocate, has pledged to donate 100% of proceeds from the 2026 Rachel Carey NDIS Business Event to Powerchair Hockey Australia.
“Supporting these athletes is about more than sport—it’s about visibility, opportunity, and belief,” said Rachel Carey. “Every player has a story of resilience and determination. By backing their journey, we’re saying loud and clear: you deserve to be seen, supported, and celebrated on the world stage.”
Breaking Barriers and Creating Pathways for Future Athletes
Despite progress, challenges remain.
“One of the biggest challenges is access—whether to facilities, funding, or high-level competition,” Kieran notes. “Organisations like ours help break down those barriers by creating pathways and advocating for the sport.”
Kieran’s advice to young aspiring athletes?
“If you’re thinking about powerchair hockey, just go for it. It’s more than a sport—it’s a community, a challenge, and a chance to push yourself further than you imagined.”
Get Involved
Want to support the growth of Powerchair Hockey in Australia?
“Come to games, follow and share our stories, or volunteer your time,” Kieran encourages. “Sponsorship and community support help create more opportunities for athletes to train, compete, and grow the sport.”
